Delta Kappa Gamma Meeting
April 21, 2012
The Omicron Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma met April 21, 2012, at MarshfieldUnited MethodistChurch, Marshfield, MO.
President Nickie Jones called the meeting to order and thanked the Marshfield hostesses, Kim Postel, Tracy Gray, Dee Rader, Susie Smith, Karen Johnson and Kari Chastain for their work in planning the meeting.
The devotional titled, “Obstacles in Our Path”, was read by Shalyn Howe.
Roll call was by Valerie Willis. There were 24 members present.
Minutes were read from the February 11, 2012 meeting. Susan Atteberry made the motion to approve the minutes as read, Joan Arthur seconded the motion. The motion carried.
The treasurer’s report was as follows:
Starting balance in the Operation Account as of February 11, 2012 $1581.17
Receipts $68.00
Expenditures $78.00
Balance in Operating Account $1576.17
Starting balance in the Scholarship Account as of February 11, 2012 $1875.80
Receipts $0.00
Expenditures $466.60
Balance in Scholarship Account $1409.20
Total balance in both accounts $2985.37
The treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
Reports were given by the following standing committees:
1. Membership—Julie Hampton, principal at Hubble Elementary, Marshfield, was presented for balloting.
2. Professional Affairs—President Jones reported that the bill filed on tenure stalled the House but a similar bill (Senate Bill 806) has been filed
in the Senate. She suggested members contact our senators to voice our opinions on this bill.
3. Courtesy—Dee Rader reported she sent cards to Vicky Rhoads and Carol Stopak.
4. Scrapbook—Betty Nichols presented President Jones with her Presidential scrapbook.
5. Initiation—Julie Reed transferred all supplies to new Initiation Chair, Susie Smith.
Old Business
A. Convention Report—President Jones reported on Delta State Convention. President Jones, Vona King, Lolabelle Underwood, Betty Nichols
and Susan Atteberry served as lunch hostesses at convention. She also reported that Leasha DeCamp was memorialized
at the Ceremony of the Rose. Susan Atteberry reported that membership is being strongly encouraged at the state
level. She also reported that many chapters are facing a decline in membership.
New Business
A. Route 66 Coordinating Council—President Jones was contacted by the Gamma Xi Chapter to dissolve the Route 66 Coordinating Council &
join Southwest Leadership Coordinating Council. Dee Rader made a motion to dissolve Omicron Chapter’s
membership in the Route 66 Coordinating Council and join Southwest Leadership Coordinating Council.
Vona King seconded the motion. Motion carried.
B. Baskets for Branson—President Jones reported that there will be baskets for auction at the Southwest Regional Conference in
Branson, MO, July 17-20, 2013 and presented the idea of Omicron Chapter having one or more baskets to donate for
the auction. Kari Chastain volunteered to coordinate the baskets and she will then contact members as to what will be
needed to be donated for the baskets.
Announcements
A. Celebrations—many personal celebrations were shared.
B. Upcoming dates were announced:
a. International Convention, July 24-28, New York City
b. Southwest Regional Conference, July 17-20, 2013, Branson, MO
C. Our next meeting will be held September 15, 2012, in Lebanon with Bonnie Gray chairing the hostess committee. Program--TBA
The meeting was adjourned with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song.
The program was the ceremony for Installation of 2012-2014 Officers
